Equal Access Commitment

Pro Bono Work

We salute all the agencies and lawyers in the area contributing to legal justice for everyone. Below are the organizations we currently support with volunteer (pro bono) legal services.

• Community Advocacy

I serve on the Real Estate Foundaiton Board for the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina inspires philanthropy and mobilizes resources to enrich lives and communities throughout the region.

• Alternative Dispute Resolution

I serve as a Community Mediator for The Mediation Center in Asheville. My experience as a litigator taught me the importance of exploring alternative ways to settle disagreements before litigation. The nature and expense of litigation often escalates conflict. Mediation is another way of resolving disputes. The mediation process can provide a safe and neutral environment for opposing parties to work out a wide variety of conflicts. 

• Poverty Advocacy
  I volunteer with Pisgah Legal Services and Legal Aid of North Carolina by providing pro bono legal services to low-income citizens. A majority of my pro bono work with these organizations has involved Social Security disability or Medicaid issues. However I also provide services for cases involving probate law, landlord/tenant issues, and housing issues.
  

• Arts Advocacy
  I serve as a member of Board of Directors of Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance, Inc. This charitable organization promotes the appreciation of dance as an art form by organizing and presenting public performances. Their purpose is to make world class dance and dance instruction available to all.

  Nonprofit, nonpartisan association dedicated to protecting people’s rights through professional and community legal education, championing individual rights, and protecting the safety of North Carolina families — in the workplace, in the home, and in the environment.

  Professional attorney organization supporting continuing education, ethical practices, and collegial support for members; promotes diversity and inclusion in the legal profession in North Carolina.
